Nature of the coursework

Center courses offered through CMI in Brattleboro, Vermont consist of six, ninety-minute sessions once a week over 8 weeks.  Each session begins with a twenty-minute meditation including guided instruction. The remainder of each class includes presentations by the teacher, reflections and discussions of weekly assigned readings, daily meditations, and applications of key Buddhist principles to daily life and work environments.

All sessions include:

  • presentation of material with the use of visual frameworks for understanding, discussion, dialogue, and a high level of interaction with the instructor
  • the development of a strong and supportive learning community
  • an experiential component where participants take theories and concepts presented in the course and test them out in the world, in both professional and personal contexts
  • readings in both the professional field and the application of applied mindfulness to that field
  • focus on the development of both wisdom and compassion in personal and professional contexts

This course has been wonderful. Now when I walk to work, I feel the wind - I feel the road - I see the flowers and trees - I smell the flowers - This course has made a huge positive impact on my class but an even bigger impact in my daily life.

Every evening has been amazing. I learned so much from the two of you (Jack and Claire) and from everyone in the class.

There was beauty in the way you presented the material.
