How Center Courses Work
After you have registered and paid:
Within a few days of having registered and paid for your course, you will receive an email from the teacher welcoming you to the course. This email contains the following basic information:
The class location with directions
A detailed syllabus for the course
One week before the course begins, we will send you a reminder of the class start date with times and an overview of the first class.
Materials for Center Courses:
1. You will need to purchase the required text before the first
class.
2. Supplementary handouts will be supplied by CMI.
3. If you wish to sit on a meditation cushion please bring it with
you. Chairs will be provided by the center.
Nature of the coursework
Center courses offered through CMI in Brattleboro, Vermont consist of six, ninety-minute sessions once a week over 8 weeks. Each session begins with a twenty-minute meditation including guided instruction. The remainder of each class includes presentations by the teacher, reflections and discussions of weekly assigned readings, daily meditations, and applications of key Buddhist principles to daily life and work environments.

- presentation of material with the use of visual frameworks for understanding,discussion, dialogue, and a high level of interaction with the instructor
- the development of a strong and supportive learning community
- an experiential component where participants take theories and concepts presented in the course and test them out in the world, in both professional and personal contexts
- readings in both the professional field and the application of applied mindfulness to that field
- focus on the development of both wisdom and compassion in personal and professional contexts
